Product-Specific Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to know about drapery medallions?Drapery medallions are sometimes referred to as drapery holdbacks, drapery tiebacks, or drapery knobs. You will need them to install this valance. Usually, you will need to purchase the decorative part, the knob, as well as a post adapter or extender that is attached to the knob. Both parts are readily available at local decorator fabric stores and sometimes in home improvement stores too.
Can I install this valance with draperies underneath?Yes, but you have to make sure that the
projection of the entire holdback is at least 5 inches. When purchasing the post adapter or extender for the holdbacks, make sure that it is at least 4 1/2 inches in length.
How much is the center swag raised? For rectangular windows, the center
swag is raised approximately 9 to 11 inches. For some arched windows, you may have to raise it up to 14 inches from the base of the arc to accommodate its arched shape and cover the molding. Keep in mind that
for arched windows, in addition, you will also need at least a 12-inch distance to the ceiling from the uppermost part of the window to ensure that the window frame is mostly covered. The softer the arc shape of the window, the smaller the distance to the ceiling can be.
What window widths will this valance accommodate? Depending on which pattern you choose and whether you choose to add draperies, this valance will work on rectangular windows between 38 and 52 inches wide. In contrast, it will accommodate a half-moon arched window that is slightly narrower. Again, the higher up the valance is installed, the more it takes away from the width.
NOTE THAT THE WIDTH OPTIONS FOR THE PRODUCT ASSUME THAT IT WILL BE RAISED 10 INCHES. YOU MUST ADJUST YOUR CALCULATIONS FOR ARCHED WINDOWS. As a general rule, a Pattern A valance will fit a perfectly round arched window between 41 and 45 inches wide (35 to 43 inches if using a pair of draperies underneath), and a Pattern B valance will fit a perfectly round arched window between 47 and 50 inches wide (42 to 48 inches if using a pair of draperies underneath).
