Periwinkle Blue and Brown Decorating

We're always on the lookout for unique design ideas to show our readers and today we'd like to share a design gem from a New Jersey home. Designer Lisa Cregan's design, as featured in House Beautiful, repeats colors of periwinkle blue and chocolate brown throughout the entire room. What makes this work so interesting is the choice of the specific shade of blue - periwinkle blue. We rarely see periwinkle blue in homes nowadays, let alone the most public room in the house - the living room.

If you would like to recreate this design for your own room, we encourage you to view the following fabrics:

chocolate sofa and periwinkle blue lamp shades
1 - Serasota in Sky 10997
2 - Syracuse in Tidepool 10997
3 - Gresham in Ocean Blue 10983
4 - Cascade in Peacock 11000
5 - Desiderio in Dark Gold 11068
6 - Ortiz in Cafe Royal 11245
7 - Yontocket in Opal 10843
8 - Amana in Mint 11145
9 - Tempe in Java 11216
10 - Milford in Mocha 11056

The inspirational design also features a pleated London window shade in a striped fabric. This can also be recreated - here are our suggested fabrics:

striped London window shade
1 - Vannesa Stripe in Blue Sky 10973
2 - Martha in Quarry 11452
3 - Pasadena in Tiramisu 11114
4 - Irving in Dewdrop 11385
5 - Tenorio in Vapor 11279

Designing with unusual colors doesn't have to be unusual. The key is to create a balance by using an unexpected color in moderation and surrounding it by calm neutrals.

The curtain looks very nice. I think I might do that for my little daughter's room in pink and green. Do you have discounts for repeat customers?

Fabric #4 looks very much like the window shade. I bet that would be lovely. I might do something like that in my home. I need window shades desperately (we live in South Texas!).

I have to say everything is very well coordinated. Can you do something like this for a nursery? I am curious to see how you would put together fabrics for a little baby's room.

I like the color of the sofa particularly. It goes nicely with the periwinkle.
