Double Layered Scalloped Valance

Available widths: 42" to 50"

This gorgeous custom scalloped valance is more complex than it may seem at first glance. Its scalloped shape is intricately sewn to perfection. This valance is a double layer valance. The top layer features a lined, scalloped section. If you choose a fabric with large prints, they will be centered onto each top layer section. Beaded trimming is optional for the top layer. Underneath the top layer is also a lined, scalloped layer that features a coordinating accent fabric of your choice.

Blackout lining for this layer is optional. The valance is easily installed onto decorative curtain poles. For projection rods, the sides can be extended to accommodate a return. A 48-inch wide and 21-inch long valance without a return is shown on the left. A 3-inch rod pocket is standard. This product is custom made to order in our Priority Windows USA workroom.

Product-Specific Frequently Asked Questions
Can this valance be made in a different width?
Unfortunately, it cannot. Each one of our scalloped valances has its own pattern. There is no gathering and there is no shortening or extending of pattern pieces. Each scalloped pattern is fixed. However, there are plenty of different scalloped valances styles besides this valance that we offer on our website. Just make sure to click on valances in the navigation menu above.

How long should the valance be?
It depends on your room, window and how you will use it. If this valance will be inside-mounted and used underneath a pair of draperies, a shorter length may be best. If you have a high ceiling, installing the valance only a few inches from the ceiling is good practice. In that case, a longer valance may be best.

I don't understand the whole concept of layers. How is this valance constructed?
First, there is a face fabric, which is the fabric that is visible towards the interior of your room. That face fabric layer itself, is lined with premium white lining. Then, another attached valance underneath is made with an accent fabric. This accent fabric layer itself is lined with either premium white or blackout lining as you choose. In essence, there are four layers of fabrics in this valance. It's quite a heavy custom valance, actually.

Why do you not have any scalloped valances for wide windows?
There would be a seam if we made our scalloped valances wider than what they already are. With the exception of a few styles, we try to avoid seams so that you get a good quality product.

Do I need to order a valance with or without a return?
If you plan on using a decorative pole with finials, you will need a valance without a return. Likewise, if you will use draperies over the valance, there may not be room for a valance with a return. For projection rods, you will need to add a return for the valance width. If you will use custom draperies underneath each valance, a valance with a return of 5 inches or more is necessary.

What is the difference between using blackout lining and premium lining?
The difference is small, but blackout lining pulls the valance taut and gives it a flatter surface and strength. Premium lining gives the valance a more casual, free-flowing look.

Can this valance be made with another trim?
It can only be made with the pre-approved trims that are offered under product options. Valances with sharply scalloped seams such as this one are very difficult to sew and require great expertise. For that reason, only select trims are available.

What kind of curtain rod do I need for this valance?
It depends on whether you choose a valance with or without a return. Valances without a return will work with a decorative pole up to 1 1/4 inches in diameter. Valances with a return require a 2 1/2-inch wide continental rod with a projection equal to the chosen return.
