| Product-Specific Frequently Asked Questions | What is the purpose of a duvet cover? Duvet covers are the equivalents of pillow covers for comforters. You can cover an existing comforter or purchase a simple, white comforter and simply slip a duvet cover over it. There are many reasons why people purchase custom duvet covers. For one, custom quilted comforters made with decorator fabrics cost thousands, so a duvet cover is an inexpensive alternative. Generally, store-bought comforters are filled with inexpensive polyester. Some people prefer a better quality down comforter or a hypoallergenic down comforter if they have allergies. Even though down comforters are of much better quality than polyester-filled comforters, they usually come in a solid white color. They are difficult to clean and rather uninspiring when it comes to decorating. A custom duvet is also a great way to cover a used comforter and a quick way to rotate different bedding designs year round.
How do I measure for a duvet cover? Lay down your existing comforter onto a clean floor to measure. Don't rely on what the package says or what you are told the size is as even something as simple as a Queen size duvet cover can be made differently. Using a metal, not plastic, measuring tape, measure its width and length. If the comforter has slightly curved edges, extend your measurements to where the two sides would intersect. Don't overstretch the comforter when measuring, but measure by pulling each side slightly taut. For unlined duvet covers, add 3/4 to 1 1/2 inches to the width and 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches to the length, depending on the comforter thickness. You may wish to add slightly more for lined duvet covers. | |
