Chinese Chippendale is a style of furniture that incorporates carved and latticework designs. Usually, Chinese Chippendale furniture has a lacquer finish. Oftentimes, it is stained in medium to dark colors. Red is a component in many Chinese Chippendale furniture pieces. Some may be a bold red color, whereas other pieces show it in a subtle manner, such as the dark dining set in the photo above. In the inspiration room above (courtesy of
Southern Living), a dining room was designed with Chinese Chippendale furniture. The subtle red color in the wood is maintained in the entire room by using terracotta
custom window treatments and seat cushions. To create a balance and bring the red accents into focus, the designer chose a smoky green color for the wall paint. The lattice design in the chairs is repeated elsewhere in the room as well - the tan rug on the floor.
Nothing in the room overpowers the Chinese Chippendale dining set, because it is the focal point in the room. The wall paint and rug are subtle, faded colors and the curtain complements the already existing colors in the dining set.
The following are some ideas that may help you recreate this Chinese decorating look:

Chinese Chippendale chair, available at Leonards Fine Furniture.

Chinese Chippendale arm chair, sold at Flegels Fine Furniture.
Although a simple chandelier like the one in the above photo can be found locally for a great price, we simply have to go with the best. We found this gorgeous (and let's not forget, breathtaking), white chandelier in Italian chandelier maker
MM Lampadari's Light Line catalog.

The inspiration room featured long
goblet pleated draperies. Here are some fabrics that you may like for your room design:
This terracotta check fabric resembles the fabric used for the chair upholstery:

A subtle, embroidered faux silk:

Callaway in Brick 11026
Just like the fabric above, this is also an embroidered faux silk. This fabric, however, has a bolder design that incorporates green embroidery for contrast.

Biscayne in Terracotta 10995
To continue the lattice accents, we have chosen this lattice pattern fabric. We have chosen a pale, natural color to mimic the rug design.

Menlo in Linen 10741
It is worth to note that the inspiration room is an eclectic design. It features many design elements, the main element being Chinese Chippendale design. If you so choose, you can add more elements to give it a unique, Asian look. Although the designer in our inspiration photograph did not use it,
chinoiserie is very popular with Chinese Chippendale furniture. Chinoiserie, in essence, means "Asian toile." In other words, it features design elements of Asian country life portrayed in pictures on fabrics and furniture pieces. One of our
window valances, the
Duralee Shangri-La valance, features chinoiserie design:

Likewise, to go with a chinoiserie curtain, you can also opt for chinoiserie furniture. We found this piece at
Neiman Marcus (notice that they used a wallpaper in a lattice pattern):

There are many ways that you can incorporate Chinese Chippendale and chinoiserie design in your room. We hope that this blog post has inspired you and helped you.

Everything is so pretty. I like how everything has a pumpkin color to it, it's really pretty against the neutrals/green.
