With a board-mounted cornice, even a simple shape can add richness to a window. One such example is our custom arched kick pleat valance. The valance is board-mounted and features either a 3.5- or 5.5-inch return as needed. Its arched design gives an otherwise plain window a beautiful shape and unique look. It also features simple kick pleats on each corner. You may choose to dress the entire valance in the same fabric for a classic, subdued style. If you would like to spice your decor up a little bit, you may choose a different fabric for the kick pleats. You can mix textures, such as cottons and faux silks, or different prints, such as toiles and gingham checks for a truly unique custom look.
Valance length, excluding any trims, is 20 or 23 inches as needed. Each cornice board is lined with your chosen face fabric. Valance comes with two angle brackets and installation instructions. If you choose face fabrics with large prints, they will be centered onto each valance. Each valance is fully lined with quality drapery lining. Interlining is optional. Possible widths are between 35 and 48 inches. This product is custom made to order in our Priority Windows USA workroom.
Product-Specific Frequently Asked Questions I prefer to not have the pleats made with a contrasting fabric. Can you create my valance using only one fabric?
Yes, we can. When choosing the face fabric
and contrasting fabric, simply select the same fabric. What return size do I need?
A 3 1/2-inch return
is used for small rooms, medium rooms, as well as on windows that are close to corners. A 5 1/2-inch return
is recommended for large rooms, tall windows and is necessary
to clear a pair of custom draperies underneath. We cannot stress enough, but custom draperies are heavy and take up a lot of volume. A valance with a 3 1/2-inch return
will not clear a pair of custom draperies. What do I need to install this valance?
You will need a drill, a level, a pencil or another method to mark your measurements, a tape measure and some screws and anchors. There is nothing to worry about, each board-mounted valance ships with detailed installation instructions. Installing board-mounted valances is quick and easy, as long as there are two people working together. Should I get the 20-inch or 23-inch length?
It really depends on the scale of your room and your window. For tall windows or wide windows, as well as larger rooms, a 23-inch length is best. On the other hand, valances less than 38 inches wide in small- to medium-scale rooms may do best with a 20-inch long valance. If you will install multiple valances onto a series of adjacent windows, make sure that you stick with the same length, regardless of how wide each window is. Should I add my returns to the width measurements?
No, the return
is calculated separately. For example, if your window is 36 inches wide, including your window frame
, and you'd like a 2-inch allowance
and 3 1/2-inch return
on each side, you'd select a 40-inch wide valance (36-inch width + 2 x 2-inch allowance
). Visit our Help & Info Center for more detailed instructions on how to measure for valances.
