Creating an entirely new look for a room is as simple as adding a few subtle touches here and there to spice things up.

One quick way to make a drab, boring room come to life is by adding a window treatment. There are literally hundreds of styles to choose from! The key is to start by picking out a style you really like. Here are some options.

For a sleek look, vertical blinds are always a popular choice. These will look best covering large windows or sliding doors. Curtains can bring sophistication to a room. Gathering curtains to opposite sides of a window will frame the view outside. Long hanging curtains pooled along the floor tend to add height and a hint of class to a room. For a more classic look, shutters are often used to give the room a softer, less contemporary feel.

With treatment type decided, let’s look into color. Just the right color scheme will allow the treatment to blend with the room, bringing the new look to life. The colors already present will guide you in making your color choices. For example, if the room you are updating is mostly comprised of neutral colors such as beige or tan, your window treatment should be done in a richer color such as crimson red or cobalt blue. On the reverse, if your room is a bit “busy”, you may want to add a more neutral colored window treatment to calm things down a bit.

I agree that the curtain needs to be a different color than the wall. I've seen too many drab rooms and curtains in beige and it looks like the room is sick.
